Multi-family - Bespoke Rentals
Steamboat Springs, Colorado, is fast becoming an attractive ski vacation destination, less crowded than Aspen, with incredible natural surroundings and mountain scenery. Inspired by the strata and layers of sedimentary rock in the nearby mountains, the building emerges from the landscape to maximize the scenic view from each level with minimal obstruction
The concept for this luxury rental flourishes from the responsiveness and attraction to the wild nature and stunning landscape that Colorado offers. This connection is a portrayal of the essential and simple ingredients of the state landscape; the boulder rock formations, mountain sedimentation strata, and the volumes of snow-covered mountains during the winter playing with light and shadow
A detailed site survey gave us an understanding of the land’s context to the built environment and what could be constructed.
At nearly 90 feet high with a significant portion of the main building underground, including a spacious parking area with a tunnel connecting the buildings and a private elevator for each unit, the main building consists of six levels of living space.
In the main building, levels one through four each contain individual units with four bedrooms, ensuite bathrooms, a public area, ample pantry, galley kitchen and open living and dining areas, in addition to a lounge/entertainment area and outdoor balcony. The top two levels are a duplex penthouse, each with double volume living/dining areas and windows overlooking the mountains as well as a private heated pool. Each unit is between 3,000-4,000 square feet in livable space.
The adjacent building contains a single unit as well as an amenity floor, and is connected to the main building by a cozy outdoor amenity area. The apres ski courtyard is meant to be used throughout the year, with a temperature controlled pool, lounge seating around firepits overlooking the mountains, covered hot tubs, and terraces landscaped with native natural elements and flora for easy outdoor access between the building’s levels.
Inside, wood and concrete with other natural materials enhance the cozy warm feeling of a winter escape. Inspired by the area’s natural surroundings, changing seasons and outdoor activities, the colors and materials provide a living space that serves as a sanctuary for reflecting on the beauty of nature.
